Daily Gemstone Learning | Amethyst
Amethyst is an important member of the quartz crystal family, exhibiting a purple luster due to the presence of iron.
The name "amethyst" comes from a Greek myth: the wine god Bacchus, feeling displeased after a quarrel with the moon goddess, encountered a beautiful maiden named Amethyst (the original name of amethyst) on his way home and took the opportunity to bully her in his anger. Fortunately, the moon goddess intervened just in time and transformed the maiden into a transparent stone. Bacchus soon regretted his reckless behavior and poured wine over the stone as an apology, which turned the stone into the purple color of wine. This is the origin of the name and story of amethyst.
🔮 Amethyst is traditionally regarded in Western culture as the birthstone for February and the gemstone for the sixth wedding anniversary.
🔮 It's worth noting that the purple hue of amethyst is not particularly stable; prolonged exposure to high temperatures may cause fading. Therefore, it is essential to take good care of your amethyst when wearing it.
