Daily Gemstone Learning | Clear Quartz
The name "Clear Quartz" comes from the Greek word "krustalos," meaning "ice that never melts." Clear quartz is a type of crystal that can be transparent or opaque; fully transparent varieties are also known as colorless quartz.
In mineralogy, it belongs to the quartz family, with its main chemical component being silicon dioxide (SiO2). Pure natural clear quartz can have a silicon dioxide content as high as 99.999%. Most clear quartz contains inclusions such as ice cracks and cloudiness. Natural quartz exhibits birefringence, meaning that under a polarizing microscope, it shows changes in brightness as it is rotated 90°, allowing light to pass through.
The uniqueness of clear quartz lies in its soft yet elegant luster, which complements the sheen of precious metals, making the entire piece of jewelry more dazzling. When illuminated, clear quartz emits a captivating glow, as if it contains endless vitality, enchanting all who behold it.
